In an investigation related to extortion and an attack on a coal mine in December 2020, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted searches at three locations in Jharkhand, the agency announced on Thursday.
The federal agency conducted raids on properties connected to members of the famed Aman Sahu gang in Jharkhand, including Hazaribagh and Ranchi. When searching the homes of many case suspects, the NIA found "digital devices, a Fortuner vehicle, and some incriminating material."
In the past, 24 people were named on the charge sheet in this case. The case was first filed in December 2020 at the Balumath police station in Jharkhand. It concerned an attack on the coal mine carried out by terror gang members Sujit Sinha, Aman Sahu, and others.
The Aman Sahu gang was implicated in a number of high-profile crimes in Jharkhand, including firing at a senior police officer and extorting contractors and businesspeople, according to NIA investigations. The group additionally established connections with several Naxal factions and other organized crime groups operating outside of Jharkhand.
March 2021 saw the NIA take up the investigation. An important Aman Sahu assistant named Shankar Yadav was taken into custody by the agency in February of this year after ₹1.3 crore was found during searches at five different sites in Bihar.
