PM Narendra Modi to travel to Italy for G7 summit, his first abroad trip of third term

This week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will make his first international trip since winning reelection to a third term in office. He will be visiting Italy. To take part in the G7 summit, which will take place in Italy between June 13 and June 15, PM Modi will fly there. The prestigious resort of Borgo Egnazia in the Apulia province of Italy will host the annual summit of the group of seven leading economies this year.

The G7 meeting will probably be dominated by the ongoing war in Russia and Ukraine and the situation in Gaza between Israel and Hamas. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, is also expected to speak at a meeting about the Russian invasion.

Prime Ministers of Japan, Canada, the United States, and France, Emmanuel Macron, Fumio Kishida, and Joe Biden, are among the prominent figures expected to attend the function in addition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. About Modi's trip to Italy, no formal announcement has been made as of yet.

According to sources who spoke with PTI, PM Modi would go for Italy on June 13 and return by late June 14. According to the sources, the prime minister would be escorted by a high-level group that probably consists of NSA Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. On the fringes of the G7 conference, PM Modi is anticipated to have many bilateral talks, among them one with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

PM Modi was in Hiroshima for the G7 conference last year. On the fringes of the meeting he had conversations with world leaders like Zelenskyy. The US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Japan make up the G7. Italy is hosting the summit in its position as the G7's (Group of Seven) current president. The defense of the international system based on norms has been a primary priority for the Italian president.

After Jawaharlal Nehru, only Narendra Modi has been India's prime minister for three consecutive terms, having taken the oath of office on Sunday. Days after the BJP-led NDA alliance won 293 of the 543 Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 election, the oath ceremony was held.
