Amit Panghal qualifies for Paris Olympics

After defeating China's Chuang Liu in the 51kg quarterfinals of the 2nd World Qualification Tournament held here on Sunday, silver medallist Amit Panghal of the World Championships qualified for the Olympics in Paris.

With a hard-fought 5-0 victory over Liu, Panghal—the only male silver medallist from India—won his ticket to his second Olympic Games.

As a result, he becomes one of the four athletes—Nishant Dev (71 kg), Nikhat Zareen (50 kg), Preeti Pawar (54 kg), and Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg). They've all reserved spots for the Olympics.

After losing to world championship bronze medallist Deepak Bhoria in the selection process for the first two qualifying events, Panghal had just one chance to compete in the Olympics in Paris, and he took full advantage of the chance. Later in the day, Olympic quotas will also be sought after by Jaismine Lamboria (57 kg) and Sachin Siwach (57 kg).
