Jharkhand: FIR against 56 people for alleged attack on BJP candidate Geeta Koda

In relation to the reported attack on member of parliament (MP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Singhbhum Lok Sabha candidate Geeta Koda on Sunday during her election campaign in a village in her seat, a case has been filed against six named and more than fifty unidentified attackers. An armed mob ambushed Koda and her convoy on Sunday afternoon in Mohanpur village, under the jurisdiction of Gamharia police station in Seraikela-Kharsawan, the home area of chief minister Champai Soren. The flying squad team (FST) of the district administration has opened a new case against five-six unidentified individuals for violating Section 144 and possessing weapons without authorization.

The crowd prevented Koda and her convoy from entering the village, claiming that the residents supported the INDIA bloc and that the BJP candidate was not needed there. They were equipped with bows and arrows, pick axes, sticks, axes, and other weapons. The MP was even placed under gherao for more than two hours before she was freed at 3:30 p.m. by police and officials. This morning, some criminal elements were harassing and threatening us from the villages in Kandra, yelling slogans in support of a specific political party. And hundreds of that party's followers arrived on motorbikes and tractors as we got closer to Mohanpur, blocking our caravan. Armed with pick axes, axes, sticks, bows, and other weapons, they violently attacked our supporters, tearing off the clothing of several ladies. Koda told HT over the phone that this was the assassination of democracy.

The area is regarded as a stronghold of the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and is included in the Seraikela assembly segment, which is represented by CM Champai Soren. How could they prevent a candidate from running for office by force? This is a long-standing plot. Koda continued, "I have reported the incident to the Election Commission of India (ECI) and filed a complaint at the Gamharia police station against six named and over fifty unknown attackers." Madhu Koda, her spouse and a former chief minister, stated, "The JMM should not foster any misconception." Each and every brickbat will receive an equal response.

The FST team has filed a case against 56 unidentified individuals under sections 147, 148, 149, 341 342, 323, 324, 504, 506/34, and 171 f of the IPC in accordance with the procedure of violating Section 144 and the model code of conduct, according to Sunil Kumar Prajapati, the Seraikela sub-divisional officer (SDO). Additionally, a report is being forwarded to the Election Commission. Following a delegation from the BJP legal cell, headed by its state convenor Sudhir Srivastav, filing a complaint with the state chief election officer K Ravi Kumar and submitting relevant video clips in a pen drive, the State Election Commission also ordered an investigation into the attack by the range inspector general (IG).

In the meantime, in a post on X that tags the state director general of police (DGP), BJP state president Babulal Marandi has sought more protection for Geeta Koda and severe action against the offenders.

The conscience dies first when doom is imminent. The cowardly attack on Geeta Koda during the electoral campaign by JMM leaders and workers deserves every bit of censure. In actuality, JMM is assaulting BJP leaders and employees because they are afraid of the impending defeat that is staring them in the face. According to Marandi, it is simple to assume that regular women and common people are not safe under this regime when a sitting lady MP is not. The electorate will respond appropriately. This occurred in the CM's constituency, and we believe he may have had implicit approval of it as well. Hemant Soren's conspirator group has been targeting Geeta Koda—first on social media and now in person—ever since she left the Congress and began exposing the evils of the INDI alliance. Marandi said that the ECI has to act on this as soon as possible.

Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Ammar Bauri declared, "On the anniversary of Dr. BR Ambedkar's birth, the pervert and irate JMM leaders and workers launched an attack on democracy and the Constitution." In the neighborhood where CM grew up, Geeta Koda was attacked. JMM, however, claimed that the BJP and its agents were the ones who initiated the confrontation. The BJP representatives initiated the confrontation by pushing and shoving tribal locals, despite the LoP's misrepresentation of the victim in their tweets. Then Geeta Koda and others were gheraoed by the people. The JMM remarked on X, in reaction to a video clip of the fight, that they were annoyed since the MP hadn't even visited the hamlet once after winning the last time.
