Tragedy Strikes: 11 Aspirants Die During Jharkhand Police Recruitment Physical Test

The Jharkhand government has suspended the ongoing physical test for the recruitment of 583 constables in the excise department following the deaths of at least a dozen aspirants. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, currently out of the state until September 3, announced on social media that his government has also instructed the state health department to form a committee to investigate the causes of these deaths and to submit a report with recommendations. This decision comes in response to the tragic loss of life among the candidates, prompting a review of the recruitment process and its associated health risks.

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has ordered a review of the recruitment regulations established by the previous government and has directed authorities to provide immediate assistance to the families of the deceased candidates. This decision was made shortly after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) urged the government to delay the ongoing physical test for excise constable recruitment by at least 15 days, citing concerns over the recent deaths.

The BJP also called on the state government to provide monetary compensation and offer government jobs to the dependents of the victims. In a press conference at the party's state headquarters, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also co-incharge of the upcoming assembly elections, announced a monetary compensation of ₹1 lakh for each of the victims' families.
