According to Honduran authorities, Gilbert Reyes Bermúdez, an American citizen, was detained in the Dominican Republic for allegedly killing three women on the island of Roatán. Dione Solórzano, Nikendra McCoy, and María Antonia Cruz are said to have been killed by Bermúdez, 36.

The suspect went out with the three women on January 6, which is when the murders happened. It is said that Bermúdez's previous partner was Solórzano.

The women were reported missing the day following the killings. The Costa Rican daily Tico Times said that their bodies were discovered three days later, gunshot wounds discovered in an automobile.
