11 Indians trapped in Myanmar job scam released and to return home soon

The Indian embassy in Myanmar reported that 11 Indian victims who were caught up in a work fraud at Shwe Ko Ko in Myawaddy were freed with assistance from Myanmar authorities.
The embassy claimed on X that the Indians who were imprisoned in Shwe Ko Ko had been freed by the Myanmar government with help from the locals.

Previous to this, 13 Indians who were duped into falling for a work scam in Myanmar had problems returning home because they had entered the nation illegally. Similar work frauds have been exposed to Indians in Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar. The Deccan Herald revealed that the majority of them were from Tamil Nadu.

The study also revealed that 150 Indians who were imprisoned at Shwe Ko Ko were eventually freed, and 45 Indians were saved from their false employers by the embassies of Thailand and Myanmar in 2022.

In 2024, phony trade apps, investing apps and websites, lending apps, dating apps, and gaming apps will all be prominent features of cyber-scams.The hub of scams in Myanmar, Shwe Ko Ko, is notorious for its phony employment schemes that facilitate illicit gaming, human trafficking, call center frauds, and cryptocurrency scams.

360 Indians were also saved from Cambodia in May 2024; they were engaged in internet fraud in secure communities such as Shwe Ko Ko.

In order to address the growth in cybercrime that is causing these kinds of crises, the central government stated on May 16 that a high-level interministerial group would be formed. The committee would be chaired by the special secretary (internal security), ministry of home affairs. The Indian embassy also tagged the offices of the Prime Minister of India and the External Affairs Ministry on X, announcing that the Indian citizens would shortly be returned and return home.
