DC vs CSK IPL 2024 Highlights: MS Dhoni lets fly but Chennai Super Kings lose to Delhi Capitals by 20 runs

DC vs CSK IPL 2024 Highlights: Chennai Super Kings, who had batted first and scored 191/5 in 20 overs, were put under extreme pressure by pacers Khaleel Ahmed and Ishant Sharma of the Delhi Capitals. The opening pair of Rurutaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra were dismissed by Khaleel, leaving CSK reeling at 7/2 at the beginning of the third over. Towards the end of the powerplay, Ajinkya Rahane then gave them some momentum, but CSK was never able to fully commit to their chase in the middle overs. In the end, Rahane was dismissed for 45 off 30, leaving Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja to chase a steeply rising needed run rate in the last overs. Ultimately, Dube was removed by Mukesh for his third wicket, allowing MS Dhoni to bat for the first time this season.

The Delhi Capitals had previously demoted Mitchell Marsh and David Warner from their opening lineup and replaced them with Prithvi Shaw. Shaw and Warner had a slow start, but by the end of the powerplay, they were both playing very well. Together, they made sure that DC scored 62 runs during the powerplay without losing any wickets. Warner reached fifty runs, but Matheesha Pathirana's spectacular catch put an end to the Australian's innings shortly after. Shaw was removed for 43 off 27 after his innings ended at 52 off 35.

Using two scorching yorkers in one over, Pathirana then turned it on with the ball, dismissing Mitchell Marsh and Tristan Stubbs. After then, Pant gave up and achieved his first season half-century. After Pathirana dismissed him at 51 off 32 balls, DC finished their 20 overs with a score of 191/5.

As DC plays their first home game in Visakhapatnam, they will be hoping for a change of luck. DC's batting lineup has appeared blatantly inexperienced. In their first game, the Punjab Kings thoroughly outmatched them, and in their second, the Rajasthan Royals did the same.

In actuality, there are two opposing batting lineups in this game. Except for their opening duo of David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Rishabh Pant, DC doesn't have much. In contrast, CSK is so talented that they haven't required MS Dhoni to bat at all this season. Even so, Pant has had a strong start to his comeback journey but has not yet recorded a high score—though it may still be too soon to anticipate that. Warner and Marsh, however, have gotten off to fast starts but haven't quite materialized into a substantial total. Their remaining lineup has been completely unimpressive, with very few standout performances.

Additionally, DC faces the challenging task of quickly adjusting to two home venues. Even though it's being played in Visakhapatnam, this is officially their first "home" game. Before shifting to the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi to play their remaining home games, they will play one more match here. On the opposite end of the form graph is CSK. The last time Dhoni gave the captaincy to a member of the squad, they crashed and burned, but this time it hasn't happened at all. In the two games they have played and won so far, CSK has appeared nearly flawless.Similar to the Chepauk audience this season, the one in Visakhapatnam would be hoping to watch Dhoni bat, but his opponents would be hoping he won't have much to do. After all, Dhoni enters at number seven.

In the event that he fires tonight, however, it will be a nostalgic occasion for devoted Vizag cricket supporters present in the stadium. Because it was here, almost 20 years ago, that young Dhoni, who had shoulder-length hair, was elevated to the No. 3 spot ahead of himself in an ODI against Pakistan by then-India captain Sourav Ganguly. The 23-year-old took advantage of the opportunity to the fullest. With a brilliant 148 in just 123 balls, Dhoni guided India to victory by 58 runs. Now that they are both roughly twenty years older, Dhoni and Ganguly are back at that location. The former may be playing the last leg of his legendary career, while the latter sits in the opposing dugout after having hung up his boots a very long time ago.
