Michael Neser is selected by Australia for the Tests against New Zealand

Michael Neser, a seam bowler, has been called up to the Test team for Australia's New Zealand trip. Neser last played for Australia in a Test match in December 2022. He has played in two Tests and four ODIs for his nation thus far.

The 33-year-old was chosen with the anticipated seamer-friendly conditions in New Zealand in mind. After Jhye Richardson missed six weeks due to a side strain and Lance Morris suffered an injury during the ODI series against the West Indies, his prospects of being selected were enhanced.

Even though Matt Renshaw is the backup batter, he keeps his spot on the team when David Warner retired lately.

"It's great to see Michael Neser get another opportunity in the squad following his ever-consistent performances over a long period of time and the conditions we expect," George Bailey, who chairs the selection panel, said.

"As we all know, each Test match provides crucial chances for gaining important WTC points and we believe this tour will be a difficult test versus an outstanding side who have been so effective at home for a long period of time."

Australia's first Test series in New Zealand since 2016 will begin on February 29 with two matches.
